REMORSE

A smell brought by a breeze sent to reinforce the past, to set memories in motion
playing in your mind repetitively.
It starts, finishes, and starts again.
Painful, vivid thoughts.
They never stop.
You're feeling ashamed, embarrassed, nostalgic, regretful ... of everything.
Things you said were set in concrete.
Traced deep with a stick found on the ground next to the tempting wet mass of soon to be gray stone.
You said these things, whether you like it or not.
And there is no taking it back. There is no making it better.
If you try, it only makes things worse
So you sit, blank stare, clenching teeth.
Remembering everything you've tried so hard to forget.
There is no taking it back.
There is no forgetting.

Remorse.
